Probation gets Gold Medal for Excellence in Business Awards
The Probation Trusts in England & Wales have become the first public sector organisation to be awarded the British Quality Foundation’s Gold Medal for Excellence. Avon and Somerset Probation Trust was awarded the four stars “Recognised for Excellence” status earlier this year which made a significant contribution to the national 2011 supreme business award.

Probation Minister Crispin Blunt received the award on behalf of the Probation Service at a ceremony attended by HRH The Princess Royal on Thursday evening (Oct 13).

The BQF Gold Medal for Excellence is awarded every year to an organisation which stands out against others as an example of excellence and demonstrates continued commitment to sustained improvement over a number of years.

Crispin Blunt, Probation Minister, said: “This prestigious award recognises the professionalism of probation staff and the excellence of their work. This very public recognition of not just what they do but, perhaps more importantly, how well they do it, will be a source of pride for probation staff.”

Sally Lewis Chief Executive Officer Avon and Somerset Probation Trust explains “Both the national and local awards are incredibly important not only in recognising the high standards of service that we offer communities, but also in the way we operate as an organisation. Avon and Somerset Probation Trust has developed a business approach which means we are a professional organisation ready to complete in a commercial and competitive environment, with a long history in the public sector this business award recognises that we have the skills and professionalism both in the services we offer and in the manner by which in operate as a business. As the public sector changes this award illustrates that we are equipped to remain a market leader.”
